THE CONGO EXPERIENCE by Beverly Enwall Consulting editor: JM Llopart A history of the mineral-rich and turbulent Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, based on the diaries, reports
and writings of missionaries particularly the diaries of Father Julian Azcona,
27 years in the rainforest of Upper Zaire, as well as writings of Belgian
government officials, mining officials, journalists military personnel and
travelers who were witness to events and their consequences. The text is accompanied by hundreds of photos. For those interested in that part of the world, we have a Congo Update on our menu to the right where we post more or less every month a recent article or letter that has recently been sent by someone currently or recently in the Congo to any of our principal contributors.

THE LAURENS: A FATHER, A SON AND A REVOLUTION" by Beverly Enwall The correspondence 1777-1782 between South Carolinians Henry Laurens, President of the Second Continental Congress and his son Lt. Colonel John Laurens, aide-de-camp to General Washington. Thety were father and son and they were best friends, dedicated to securing our freedom. For Henry that meant long hours steering a steady path through political wrangling and intrigues. For John, in addition to his heroics in numerous battles, freedom included a plan to set the slaves free as well and he convinced his father they needed to try to make it work. In-between the letters are "Words from the Wing" intended to provide information about events and persons mentioned for those readers who might not have all the facts of the American Revolution at their fingertips.

THE FIRST FORT by Beverly Enwall In the year 1562, as France increased its persecution of
non-Catholics, one group of Huguenots sailed for the New
World to find gold to buy the King's favor. They arrived on
the coast of modern South
Carolina and hastily erected a fort. Among
them was a 16-year-old boy, William Ruffin. He was also among the 27 who
were left to guard the fort and find gold. William was also the one sent often
to the nearby Edisto Indian village where he
made friends and learned the language. But it was an ill-fated fort that
erupted in hatred and violence that sent William's life along a different path. Based on the Spanish and French chronicles of the time.

MOONROY A story of the American Revolution in the South by Beverly Enwall A novel about the family of a
patriot, Peter Monclair, his two sons, two daughters, and his slaves, since any
colonial plantation was in reality a biracial community. Moonroy was started by "Old Piere," Peter's father, a French Huguenot and one-time pirate. It is a plantation of rice fields, some sea cotton, and some of the best
horses in the colony, thanks to Jeremy who was purchased by old Pierre who knew
the value of a Gambia man. Peter's children
were young adults when British warships attacked Charles Town
in June, 1776, the first of three British attacks on the city that changed
everyone's lives.

THE CROWN OF CASTILE

In mid-15th century in Spain, King Henry IV ruled Castile. Well-meaning and
trusting, Henry's rule and fondness for his male lovers and for things Moslem
provoked reactions ranging from the loyalty of the common people to
assassination attempts by the Barons. The real wielder of power was the
Marquis of Villena, referred to in chronicles as the "hand from hell in
the velvet glove." This the story, based on the chronicles, of how, through events and unlikely love affairs, Henry's
half-forgotten sister Isabel became Castile's most famous Queen.
