ITINERARY
FOR TOUR B-1: NORWAY, LEBANON, THAILAND
LEBANON
1) Seven Lost Cities Arrival in Beirut at a hotel on nearby
Jounieh Bay, tour of archaeological digs, started due to war damage that has
revealed beneath Beirut 7 cities, one dating back to Phoenician times,
the museum of objects
retrieved. An excursion to the Jaita grottos, partly in boat, partly on foot.
2)Ahoy to History Boating south to the historic cities and
their
Phoenician and Roman ruins of Sidon and Tyre, then a flight inland to Beit Et Deene,
once a city of palaces, with one palace now a hotel.
3) Myrna's New Friend Flying north over the orchards, vineyards and green fields of Beqaa Valley with a Lebanese friend to Zahlé, "City of Wine and
Poetry," enjoying mezze at an outdoor restaurant beside the Bardawni
River, a drive
over to Baalbeck and the largest Roman temple in the world, and a symphonic
concert amid the ruins.
4) Snow, Surf and Song Traveling through Bcharre, birthplace
of Kahlil Gibran to famous Cedars of Lebanon and the ski slopes, then back to the
coast to sightsee and shop in Tripoli, and back to a beachside hotel at Jounieh Bay
and a modern concert at its elegant casino.
NORWAY
1) Blue Ice Arriving in Bergen and then on to Fjaerdahl,
the Norwegian Glacier Museum and a guided "Blue Ice" half-day hike on Nigard
Glacier.
2) Å A visit to the Norwegian Salmon Center, then north
to the Lofoten Islands and the small village of Å, population 150, to stay in a rorbu
and do some deep sea fishing, hike, canoe, and explore.
3) Trumpets and Trolls All the way to Hammerfest, the North Cape, and the Samis, then south to Trondheim, ancient Viking stronghold, a visit to a troll factory and to Norway's Ringve Music Museum with its worldwide collection
of instruments.
4) Schuss! South again to Lillehammer, a premier ski
area with 300 miles of ski runs, cross country and downhill, and Norwegian
ski sweaters for après ski.
THAILAND
1) Beautiful Bangkok Sight-seeing in Bangkok, the Royal
Palace and the Emerald Buddha, several temples, the royal dragon boats, a dinner
show of classical Thai dance, an excursion to the floating market in Ratchaburi en
route to the notorious bridge over the River Kwai and on to the world's second largest sapphire mine.
2)Elephants and Candlewax In a "long tail" motorboat,
up to Ayutthaya to tour by tuk-tuk some of the ancient sites and monuments, a visit to
the Royal Kraal Elephant Pavilion for the show, including war elephants, a stop to shop at
the river island of Koh, then a flight to Sakhon Nakhon for the "wax candle" parade of
floats as well as the Nakhom Phanom festival across the river, and on to Chiang Mai
and an elephant ride through teakwood forests.
3) Combat, Craft and Cultures In Chiang Mai, a day at Kuat Busaba, a premier Thai boxing training center, sight-seeing and shopping for
special crafts, including a visit to Ban Roi An Phan Yang, the teakwood store and museum, a traditional Likay show, visiting Hill Tribes en route to Nan, the silk center.
4) Endless Beaches To Hua Hin, long a royal beach favorite,
then sight-seeing en route to Pattaya, seeing some sights in Pattaya and an excursion to
Rayong, and a scuba dive out of Pattaya. Then south to Krabi and the islands of the Andaman Sea, -- the Phi Phi, the Phang Nga, and the Similan, considered by Cousteau
as one of the ten best dive sites in the world
