FOR "ACROSS AFRICA" EGYPT, GHANA,
SOUTH AFRICA
EGYPT
1) Life
5000 Years Ago Arrival in Cairo at the Le Meridien Pyramids,
a visit to the re-enacted Pharaonic Village, the Light and Sound Show at
the Pyramids, belly-dancing, shopping the great Cairo bazaar,
riding a camel out to the pyramids
2) Floating Back Through Time On to Luxor and
La Piramisa Isis Hotel, sight-seeing a few of the many wonders-- the
temple of Karnak, and, from a balloon and on foot, the Valley of the
Kings and the great temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
3) Monuments
to Immortal ME! Taking a cruise ship south along the Nile,
stopping off to tour a few temples on the way, arriving at the Oberoi Hotei
in Aswan, seeing the
great Temple of Abu Simbel at dawn, as Ramses II intended.
4) Diving Into The Red Sea
Arriving at the Helnan Marina in one of Egypt's premier resorts, Sharm-el-Sheikh
and deciding where to begin with so many places to dive into the underwater world.
GHANA
1) Leopards Great and Small Arrival at the Golden Tulip in
Accra, sight-seeing and shopping for Ashanti goldwork, Fanti asafo flags while
sipping asenkee and enjoying Omanhene chocolate
2) Along Lake Volta Driving northeast past cacao trees to the largest man-made lake in the world and an afternoon
of cruising on the Dodi Princess, then flying north to see Mole National Park, a wildlife
preserve of 500 square miles.
3) Many Forms of Royalty Taking the canopy walk above the
trees in Kakum, then on to Lake Bosomtwe for the night, then on to the Ashanti
capital of Kumasi, sight-seeing and buying authentic kente cloth.
4) Surfside at Biriwa At the Biriwa Beach Hotel,
enjoying the beach, touring the Cape Coast "Castle" where captives
were brought to be sold as slaves, and reggae music at twilight.
SOUTH AFRICA
1) Earth, Sky and Water Arriving in "Jo-burg" (Johannesburg),
a visit to Gold Reef City to see an original mine shaft, see gold poured, and
before enjoying all the amusements and rides, go through the sobering
Apartheid Museum, then to Magaliesberg and a hot air balloon safari over
Pilanesberg National Park, the largest game stocking and land rehabilitation
project ever done in Africa, then south on the train, stopping at the
Kimberley diamond mine, then all the way south to Capetown.
2)On the Baz Bus In Capetown, a flight to see both oceans at once, a boat ride out to infamous Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned, the
Two Oceans Aquarium, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, then the Baz Bus north
a short ways to Hermanus, one of the world's best places to watch whales from on shore
and find some excellent local art, then north to Stormsriver and the Tsitsikamma Lodge.
3) Kwa Zulu Natal Among the Stormsrivers adventures available, blackwater tubing and tree canopy walking. A drive through the Karoo to the Kango Caves, then to the Safari Ostrich Farm before taking a small plane flight to visit the
battlefields where Zulus and Europeans clashed, then on to Durban.
4) The Fabulous Five In Durban, rickshaw riding, shopping,
sight-seeing, enjoying the beach, an afternoon sail on the Indian Ocean. An all-day excursion to a Zulu village, then to the Zululand Tree Lodge in order to take the
dawn and evening safaris into the game reserves where rhinos are re-populating.
